Cristiano Ronaldo to Make Scripted Acting Debut in British TV Drama ‘Day 1s’

A vertical photograph of professional soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo standing on the pitch in a rain-filled stadium. He is dressed in Portugal's long-sleeve red and dark green home jersey with his iconic number 7 on the front. Smiling broadly, he raises his right arm with a clenched fist in a triumphant celebration gesture while water droplets glisten in the air against a blurred stadium crowd background.

LONDON — Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is stepping in front of the camera for his first scripted television role. The global football icon will feature in and executive produce Day 1s, a high-stakes TV drama centered on the high-pressure, backroom world of elite sports agencies.

The series marks the maiden television production from UR•Marv—an independent joint venture co-founded by Ronaldo and acclaimed British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman, Layer Cake, Kick-Ass).

Beyond the Pitch: Why Ronaldo’s Hollywood Pivot Matters

While athlete cameos are not uncommon in Hollywood, Ronaldo’s involvement in Day 1s represents a seismic shift in how elite sports figures transition into global media moguls. Following his final appearance for Portugal at the 2026 World Cup and balancing his playing career with Al-Nassr, the 41-year-old superstar is deliberately laying the groundwork for his post-retirement empire.

With over 900 million combined followers across social channels, Ronaldo isn’t merely lending his name to a guest role; he brings built-in, global distribution equity. By co-owning the production banner UR•Marv, he takes direct control over the narrative and commercial strategy, signaling a new era where athletes finance, produce, and star in prestige Hollywood projects.

“This is an exciting chapter for me as I look ahead to new ventures in business,” Ronaldo shared regarding the banner’s launch. “Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to bringing that same energy to screen,” added director Matthew Vaughn.

How Day 1s Differs From Traditional Sports Dramas

Most football-centric television series fall into either idealised comedy or surface-level sports documentary formats. Day 1s takes an entirely different approach by dissecting the financial machinery, backroom power struggles, and transfer window anxiety that govern modern sport.

Because the narrative was created by veteran football agent Darren Dein—who famously brokered deals for icons like Thierry Henry—the script offers an unprecedented, authentic look at contract negotiations, player rivalries, and the psychological weight of managing human capital.

Star-Studded Cast & Production Details

The project blends award-winning British acting talent with genuine sports royalty and culture figures:

  • Damian Lewis (Billions, Homeland) headlines the series as lead agent Stanley Dalton.
  • Thierry Henry, former Arsenal and France legend, makes a featured guest appearance.
  • Dave (Santan Dave), the Mercury Prize and BRIT Award-winning British musician, joins the ensemble cast.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo will appear in a scripted cameo while serving as Executive Producer.

Production is currently underway on location in North-West London, with camera crews recently capturing scenes at The Hive Stadium (home of Barnet FC).

While a formal distribution deal has not yet been finalized, major streaming networks are already locked in a competitive bidding war to secure global distribution rights.
